Mary Ellen Murphy fell in love for the first time in her life at the young age of 6- the day the Hunter family moved in next door. The object of her affection, a young boy named James, was oblivious to the sweet girl's feelings (as many young boys are). Mary Ellen didn't care. She followed James around, listening to the stories of his homeland in England. By the time the kids were in high school however, Mary Ellen had blossomed into a beautiful young girl and was the apple of many a boy's eye- but her affections never wavered. It wasn't until he went off to college that James realized just what was missing in his life. Spurning his parents wishes, James returned to Mary Ellen and professed his love for her. Mary Ellen Murphy and James Hunter were soon wed and left to begin their lives together.
 
Eager to start a family it wasn't even a year into their marriage that Mary Ellen got pregnant with their first child. Although the pregnancy was without incident the labor was long and difficult. Mary Ellen eventually gave birth to a son, Jonas Hunter, and as soon as their eyes met, she fell in love for the second time in her life. Unfortunately due to the complications of the labor Mary Ellen developed sepsis and shortly after the birth James was told Mary would not survive the night- there was nothing the doctors could do. Mary Ellen Hunter died, holding her son and her husband's hand, using her last breath to kiss Jonas on the forehead and tell the men in her life just how much she loved them.
